Putting PDF Files On Your iPhone / iPod Touch

This post will only be of interest to those who are new to the iPhone or iPod Touch.

Whenever I wanted to transfer a .pdf file to my iPhone I would simply e-mail it to myself and download to the phone.  That is until two days ago when I downloaded the iBooks app (free).

To transfer pdf files form your computer to your iPhone, follow the steps below. I've included screenshots to offer some sort of visual guide.

[To perform these steps you will need iTunes, iBooks and your iPhone / iPod]

1. Open iTunes
2. Select File and Add To Library... [⌘+ O]

3. Select your pdf file and click "Choose"

4. In the left-hand Library menu, select Books

You should see your pdf file

6. To ensure that the file is the correct media type, while holding ctrl, click the file and select "Get Info"

7. Select the Options tab at the top. On the dropdown menu, make sure Media Kind is set to "Book" and click OK.

8. Now simply click and drag the file to your device.

(Alternatively you can Sync it like you would your music, iCal, etc.)

9. Open iBooks. Select the PDF tab at the top and you should see your file placed neatly on the....iShelf? :)

I know there are alternative ways to do this; apps such as Dropbox or FileApp Pro ($4.99) and so on. But personally I find this to be the most straightforward method.
